happy birthday tablo!!!
but more importanly, and on a related note (for once), REMIXING THE HUMAN SOUL IS OUT. AND IT'S GIVING ME GOOSEBUMPS.
okay so i don't think anyone on my flist is into epik high but i just wanted to let this out. my most favorite song of epik high is "Fan." i am not korean and i don't speak the language (yet) so i may never fully understand how deep the genius of this song goes the way a native speaker might. but i think that it is a work of art. i've read translations. and i like how it sounds. and it rhymes and i'm a sucker for that. and the message struck a chord with me because i understand only too too well how your love for something you're a fan of can just consume you to the point where your real life relationships are affected. and the video was disturbingly beautiful. and just. I CAN WRITE A WHOLE DISSERTATION ON HOW I LOVE THIS SONG. (like how i absolutely love how tablo wrote the last verse because each of the four lines were almost identical but he changed the first word in each line, which was the adjective that describes his love, and with each progressing line, the adjective decreased in intensity from psychotic to stupid to hopeless to just plain love like his, and i think that's genius and i could go on and on and on). i adore it.
but the remix (called "Fanatic") is just as great/genius/awesome. i would say that it sounds like a more mature and adult version of the original, which was the emo teenager version in its angst and suicidal tendencies. i love how the original was just angry and intense and that the remix sounds like it still has that same intensity only it's just barely holding it in which makes it sound scarier but only if you're really paying attention. it's like saying the original was "batshit-crazy violent fan" and the remix is "clinically-insane but silent fan." i looooove it. AND THE MUSIC. i love drum and bass-y things and the drum track on the remix is insaaaane. i love how the first verse is just the vocal track (which they tweaked and re-recorded to match the mood <3)with a hauntingly beautiful piano and a tiny whisper of the drums in the background. and how it builds up to a crescendo to my favorite line: YOU ARE MY STAR I'M YOUR NUMBER ONE FAN, (and yes, that is the title of this journal), and this line never fails to give me goosebumps i don't care which version it is and okay i will stop myself from going into the technical shit. but i'm just gonna say that i'm even tempted to declare that it is BETTER than the original but then again, i won't appreciate this track as much if i didn't hear (and love) the original first you know?
i don't know. as;dlfkjas;lfkjds this record is eating my brain. not that i'm complaining.
